TRIO Student Support Services at Virginia Western Community College is an educational grant funded by the Department of Education (DOE). TRIO offers 250 eligible Virginia Western students additional support to achieve academic success, including instructional support services, advising, and counseling. Our services are supplemental to other Virginia Western services. Eligibility, set by the DOE, is limited to students who are United States citizens, or meet residency requirements for federal student financial aid, and meet ONE of the following criteria:
- Be a first-generation college student (neither parent/guardian has graduated with a 4-year degree from an accredited college)
- Meet low-income guidelines (“low-income” means an individual whose family’s taxable income for the preceding year did not exceed 150 percent of the poverty level amount, available here)
- Have a documented disability (physical, psychological, or learning)
Note: Students who have an Associate Degree may be eligible, pending availability. Students who are dual enrolled high school or have a Bachelor’s Degree are not eligible.
