New Students
New Student Advisors are available to assist new students and students that are not in a program of study with: placement test score evaluation, course selection, transfer advising, and long-term academic and career planning. Returning Students
If you are a returning student meet with a Program Advisor to talk about your options or discuss your academic plan. You may schedule appointments with Faculty Advisors and Program Advisors by logging in to your MyVWCC account. Instructions for scheduling an appointment are here.

Brown Library
Brown Library is your one-stop location for a variety of services tailored to helping you achieve academic success. Throughout Brown Library, you will find spaces to study, computers, printers, rooms you can reserve for group work, and helpful staff members who can answer your questions. A snack machine is available on the ground floor and drink machines are located on both the ground floor and the first floor.
Tutoring
The Academic Link Resource Desk is located on the first floor. The Link offers a variety of learning assistance services including one-on-one/group tutoring; walk-in assistance in the STEM Center (located in the STEM Bldg., Room 318), the Writing & Research Help Center (located on the 2nd floor), and the open computer labs (located in B17 & B112); online tutoring; and academic success coaching. These services are available to all Virginia Western students at no cost. Research & Checkouts
Visit the second floor of the library to study in a quiet space; browse magazines & newspapers; check out books, reserves textbooks, anatomy models, & DVDs; ask writing & research questions; and find out how to use online databases to find sources for your papers or projects. Testing
The Testing Center is located on the ground floor of Brown Library and administers placement tests, make-up tests, online tests, and other proctored tests. When students come for testing they will need to present a photo ID and Virginia Western student ID number. Career Services
The Hall Associates Career Center, located in Student Life Center Room S206, is a counseling, assessment, and resource facility offering career-related services to Virginia Western students and alumni. Students and alumni may use the services of the Career Center to explore careers, decide on a major of study, look for employment, receive assistance in writing a resume, and learn how to prepare for a job interview. The Center also offers an electronic job bank, on and off campus employer recruitment, assistance with job shadowing opportunities, and credit-based internship opportunities. Disability Services
The Office of Disability Services, located in Student Life Center Room S207, provides and coordinates services to students with disabilities (physical, psychological or learning) in order to accommodate their disabilities and promote equal educational opportunities. Financial Aid
Various forms of financial aid from both public and private funds are available to eligible students. Any student who wishes to apply for financial aid must submit a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Intervention Counselor
The Intervention Counselor is on campus to provide support to and advocate on behalf of students attending Virginia Western; assist students in crisis & help develop plans for them; provide behavioral assessments and interventions; and provide support and consultation to faculty and staff. Military Student Center
The Military Student Center is located in Webber Hall, Room 212. The Center offers a one-stop location for veteran and military-related students to receive assistance with VA education benefits and military tuition assistance programs and with college admission, registration, and financial aid. Center staff also assist with referring students to the appropriate campus office for other student services like tutoring, academic advising, career advising, and counseling. Online Learning & Instructional Technology (OLIT)
Online Learning and Instructional Technology (OLIT) provides training and support to assist students in using eLearning technologies so as to benefit and contribute to student academic success. Online Services
MyVWCC is the central source for students to access their essential student information and handle a variety of tasks including searching and registering for classes, dropping classes, and reviewing their financial aid award. Rapids Response Student Emergency Fund
The Virginia Western Educational Foundation provides the Rapids Response Student Emergency Fund to support students who experience an unexpected crisis event.

Student Email Account
The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) automatically creates a student email account for each student at a Virginia community college, including Virginia Western. This email account is where important announcements and Blackboard-related email will be sent and is considered the official method for communication at the VCCS and Virginia Western. Student ID Cards
Students who register and pay for three or more credits are eligible to receive a VWCC Student ID Card. The first card is issued free of charge and will identify the individual by name and will bear a photo and a semester validation sticker. Student Life
The Student Life Office, located in the Student Life Center, Room S307, coordinates social, cultural, educational, and recreational programs to enrich campus life. Music and dance performances, art exhibitions, lectures, plays, and clubs are all part of Virginia Western’s student activities program. Technical Support – Help Desk
Virginia Western’s Information and Educational Technology Services’ Help Desk is the student’s liaison to all Enterprise services support (Student Information System, Blackboard, Gmail, etc.). TRIO Student Support Services
TRIO Student Support Services is a federally funded program designed to provide 250 students with additional support to achieve academic success. Support services include free priority one-on-one tutoring, individualized career counseling, personalized academic advising, cultural trips and enrichment activities, financial aid information and referral, college trips, grant aid, priority class registration and short term personal counseling. TRIO applicants must be enrolled in classes at Virginia Western and be a US Citizen or intend to become a permanent citizen. Applicants must also meet one or more of the following criteria: first-generation college student, low-income, or have a documented disability (physical, psychological or learning). Tuition Payment Plan
To help meet your educational expenses, Virginia Western Community College is pleased to participate in the Tuition Management Systems (TMS) tuition payment plan. For a non-refundable fee of $35.00/40.00, TMS allows you to pay your tuition in monthly, interest-free payments. The earlier you enroll the more payment options you may have. Payments are deducted around the 20th of each month depending upon whether you opt to make your payments by ACH (direct deduction from your bank account) or by credit card. Wellness/Fitness Center
Use of Virginia Western’s Wellness/Fitness Center, located on the first floor of the Student Center, is free to all registered students. The center includes cardio equipment, weight machines, free weights, and a group exercise studio. Lockers and showers are available for day-use.
