January 24, 2017 – The Year Ahead
Happy New Year!
2016 was certainly a busy year for the Shared Services Center. Over the second half of the year, the SSC opened its doors, began hiring, and transitioned the first service from the colleges in the form of Time Administration and Calendar Processing. Throughout this initial period, the SSC has been collecting feedback from the colleges on structure, process details, and planning for future transitions.
As we enter 2017, the SSC is expecting another full year. We will see additional services transition to the center, the governance process ramp up, and definition around accountability for services, at both the college and SSC levels.
In the Fall, we communicated the development of three governance councils for the center: the SSC Executive Council, the Management Council, and the Process Councils. As you heard at in-service, we are fortunate to have wonderful representation across the board. Dr. Sandel will act as Vice-Chair of the Executive Council and is one of five college Presidents selected to oversee the SSC. Lisa Ridpath will act as Chair of the Management Council, with a focus on ensuring that SSC initiatives are appropriately supporting the system’s mission and goals. We have had, and will continue to have, many individuals who will serve on Process Councils, specific to the process being discussed/transitioned.
As we look into the next year, and beyond, here is a snapshot of SSC project discussions:
|Completed Projects||Active Projects||Projects Being Defined||Pending Projects|
|Time, Labor & Absence Management (TLAM) I||Procure-to-Pay||Hire-to-Retire (H2R) – Onboarding Focus||Automated Accounts Payable Solution|
|Travel||Contact Center – Release 1||Information Management Strategy|
|SSC Cross-Functional Technical Architecture|
For our college, the next significant transition will be Procurement and we anticipate movement to occur in late February. If you are involved in the procurement process for our campus, you will be invited to training specific to your role with the process. The training will occur on Friday, February 17th at 8:15 a.m., and you will receive additional information in the near future.
For other projects, we will continue to monitor progress and keep you informed as they take shape. To reiterate something that has been previously stated, but is important to remember: some of these are large processes. The SSC will NOT attempt to transition too much, too quickly. Significant care is being taken to identify different touch-points within the processes so that transitions can broken down into manageable parts.

As always, your feedback and questions are important and we want to hear from you. This past year helped to lay the foundation for the SSC; this year will continue to see tremendous growth and opportunity.
