A Message From President Sandel
As advised by the Virginia Department of Health and Governor Ralph Northam, Virginia Western is taking steps to limit public gatherings and large groups to lessen the potential spread of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus). We will transition the majority of our classes to remote and online delivery beginning on March 23, following Spring Break.
A limited number of specified classes will continue to meet in person with notification going directly to enrolled students. If you do not receive a specific notification that your class is meeting on campus, do not come to campus.
The college’s campus will remain open to faculty and staff during this time. Campus will closed to non-employees.
We will remain in a majority remote and online delivery phase through at least April 5, 2020. This date is subject to change as it is a fluid public health situation.
Our goal is for every student currently enrolled at Virginia Western to have the ability to complete their academic semester in a timely fashion while practicing good public health practices such as social distancing.
As we proceed, we will continuously re-evaluate and decide whether to reopen campus to students and non-employees. We will provide answers to frequently asked questions and update them on our website www.virginiawestern.edu.
For now, please be aware of these details:
- Virginia Western is on Spring Break from March 15-22. Students and non-employees are not allowed in campus buildings during this time unless specifically notified by their school office or faculty member.
- Beginning on March 23, most Virginia Western classes will move to remote or online instruction and remain in that format until at least April 5. Students and non-employees are not allowed in campus buildings during this time unless specifically notified by their school office or faculty member.
- All campus events are cancelled until at least April 5.
- Students will be advised by their faculty or schools about the specific remote delivery method for their courses. This information will be sent to students by their Virginia Western email account, which students are expected to check regularly.
- Students who attend clinical and performance-based (trades) classes will be notified by their Virginia Western email how those classes will continue.
- Students seeking services such as advising or library should use online assistance. Advisors will be available via scheduled appointments on Zoom. For details, visit https://www.virginiawestern.edu/advising/schedule_an_appointment.php, call (855) 874-6690 or email enroll@virginiawestern.edu.
- Faculty are expected to maintain their office hours online during this time period.
- Virginia Western will remain open and operational during this time period and all faculty and staff should maintain their regular work schedules unless otherwise noted.
- If you have questions about your programs or classes, please contact your school directly.
Thank you for your support as we work to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus).
Sincerely,
Dr. Robert H. Sandel
President
