Guilford Technical Community College held off a big second half rally by the Virginia Western men’s team to take a 83-75 basketball victory Tuesday night in Greensboro, NC.
Guilford Tech (1-0) limited the Rapids (0-2) to just 31 first-half points but the Rapids found their rhythm in the second half and stormed back from a 17-point deficit to cut the Tech lead to 76-75 with a little over a minute left in the game. The Rapids were unable to connect on their next possession and Tech made their free throws down the stretch to pull away.
Virginia Western was led by Damien Harris with 26 points and Chris Jones pitched in 18. The Rapids continued their hot shooting from behind the 3-point line as they connected on 12-of-28 attempts.
The Rapids return to action Thursday in the battle of 220 at Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville.
