“A Sense of Place” (an art exhibit running from November 5 until December 15) features 27 rural and urban scenes by Japanese artists from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. Pieces range from woodblock prints and sumi ink paintings to video clips from classic anime and video game backdrops. From the traditional to the contemporary, the exhibit explores the centrality and importance of the landscape and cityscape in the development of Japanese aesthetic and national identity. Visit the VWCC art gallery in the Humanities building to experience this fascinating exhibit. The opening reception (complete with Japanese snack foods) will be Wednesday, November 5th, from 5-7 pm.
