Virginia Western Community College will host a debate focused on the Virginia governor’s race at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the College’s Natural Science Center. Roanoke City Mayor David Bowers and his political science students will moderate the event as Virginia Delegates Onzlee Ware (supporting Terry McAuliffe) and Greg Habeeb (supporting Ken Cuccinelli) present the candidates’ positions. The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited.
The debate is being hosted by Virginia Western as part of its Political Science curriculum. The event should last approximately 50 minutes and feature discussion of the gubernatorial candidates, their running mates and where they stand on key issues. The speakers will answer audience questions following their presentations.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and members of the public to learn about the political process and be informed about this major upcoming election that will affect us all,” said Dr. Annette Chamberlin, the Assistant Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. “We are very thankful for Mayor Bowers and Delegates Ware and Habeeb for sharing their knowledge and why they support their respective candidates.”
