As part of the informational session, Virginia Western will also introduce its membership in the SALUTE National Veterans Honor Society. Virginia Western is the first college in the state to start a chapter in SALUTE, the first honor society established for student veterans and military in 2-year and 4-year institutions of higher education. One unique element of the honor society is the four-tier system, which is designed to encourage student veterans to strive to improve their grade-point averages and advance to higher-tier levels in the honor society during their academic careers.
Along with introducing its SALUTE chapter, Virginia Western will inform veterans and active military members of educational opportunities and funding available at the college. Veterans who are currently enrolled at Virginia Western or who are recent graduates will also be on hand to discuss their experiences returning to school.
