Virginia Western Community College announces the hiring of Josh Meyer as its new coordinator for marketing and strategic communications. Meyer will serve as the college’s public information officer and highlight the ways in which Virginia Western meets the needs of our diverse community by providing comprehensive educational programs and workforce development.
Meyer, a Roanoke native, returns to the area after working as a public communications specialist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition to a history of handling communications in higher education, at nonprofit organizations and at the agency level, Meyer is a former journalist at The Roanoke Times and The (Raleigh) News & Observer. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill.
“We are thrilled that Josh is returning home to be part of our college,” said Robert Sandel, Virginia Western president. “As someone who grew up in the area, he is well aware of the integral role Virginia Western plays in the community. With his expertise and experience, Josh will increase public awareness of the college’s programs and the impact it makes on the region’s workforce.”
