Katelyn Tucker Burton is our new Reference & Instruction Librarian. She comes to Virginia Western from Radford University, where she served as Instruction Librarian for 4 years. She has also held positions in Library Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, and Reference at The College of William & Mary. Katelyn holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology from William & Mary and a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from Florida State University. When she isn’t teaching research skills or helping students at the Reference Desk, Katelyn enjoys traveling with her husband, Jason.
Linda Hurt is our new Circulation Assistant. She is a Roanoke County native currently residing in Bedford County. Her past employers include Bedford County Schools and the Bedford Public Library System. She is also active in her church library, where she was instrumental in its automation. Linda’s friendly smile is probably already familiar to you – she was an Administrative Specialist for 18 months in the School of STEM office and worked closely with the Women in STEM workgroup in 2015. Linda is married with three grown children – two of whom have successfully flown the nest. Please welcome Linda back to our campus community!
Kara Reich is the part-time Technical Services Assistant in Library Services. She is a 2016 Virginia Western graduate and will be transferring to Hollins University in the fall to pursue her English degree. Kara aspires to get her masters’ in library science and become a full-time librarian. She enjoys writing and reading in her spare time and would like to one day be a published author. Kara has four cats and a corgi.
Our own Marci Myers, Library Specialist, was one of the presenters at the annual New Horizons conference held here at Hotel Roanoke this week. Thank you to the Virginia Western community for helping Marci gather information about the new QuickSearch library tool to share with the rest of Virginia Community College System.
We are excited to announce that two new Reference Assistants started at Brown Library this semester.
Marci Myers comes to us from the Bedford County Public Library System and received her M.L.S. degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
Rebecca Greer most recently worked at the architecture library at Virginia Tech and previously worked at Blacksburg City Public Libraries. She is a student in the graduate library science program at the University of Washington.
Both Marci and Rebecca will be working during our day hours. Please join us in welcoming them to Brown Library!
