Virginia’s Community Colleges have partnered with OverDrive to deliver an audio library that never closes! Virginia Western students can browse, check out, and download many titles of both fiction and non-fiction, from any computer anywhere, anytime.
- Install free software.
- Browse and check out titles.
- Download to a desktop or laptop PC.
You can listen to the books on your PC, transfer them to a supported device, or burn some titles to CD. For help getting started, check out OverDrive’s Quick Start Guide.
The Brown Library now has 30 laptops available for Virginia Western students to check out. These computers are pre-loaded with MS Office 2007 and other software relevant to a VWCC student’s classes. Laptops may be checked out for a period of 14 days and may be renewed for another 14 days, as long as no one is on the waiting list. Renewals must be done in person and are not available over the phone. All students seeking to check out a laptop must furnish a photo i.d.
For more detailed information, see the complete library policy on laptop circulation.
In the recent past, students looking to use a library computer on busy mornings have often been unable to find a free one. With the agreement of Dave Harrison and B Bagby, this problem will soon be alleviated. A team of librarians, led by Faith Janney, have been busily working to consolidate our periodical back issues into a smaller area. A few newly emptied shelves will be removed and the new computers and desks will be arranged in this space. This will bring the total number of computers in the public area of the library up to 28. We hope to have these additional stations in place by the Fall semester.
