InfoGuides are a great place to start your research. They contain suggested databases, search tips, videos, citation guidance, and much more. To access a list of our InfoGuides, organized by Subject Area, choose “InfoGuides” from the library’s homepage.
To see a list of article databases, choose “Find Articles” from the library’s homepage and select “Databases.” All library databases and eBooks can be accessed off-campus 24/7 by logging in with your MyVWCC username and password when prompted. If you have trouble with your MyVWCC username or password, contact the Help Desk at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Interlibrary Loan remains available for Article Requests only at this time. Per state guidance, we will not participate in borrowing or lending print materials. Please contact a librarian if you need assistance identifying research materials. Information on contacting a librarian can be found below.
To see a list of eBooks, choose “Find Books” from the library’s homepage and select “Catalog.” Enter keywords in the search box. From the search results list, you may use limiters on the right side of the screen to limit to full text online and select specific resource types, like book chapters or eBooks.
The library offers a 24/7 online chat/ instant messaging service to help with research questions. Simply click on “Ask a Librarian Chat” on our library homepage to ask a question and get help day or night.
If you need more in-depth help, librarians Katelyn Burton, Dale Dulaney, and Marci Myers are also available to conduct research consultations by appointment via phone, email, or Zoom videoconferencing. Online Writing & Research Center: Submit your paper for review Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm by following the instructions at https://www.virginiawestern.edu/learning/link/onlinewritingcenter.php. After we complete our review, if you would like a follow-up Zoom session to discuss your paper, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Current students can also receive free online tutoring for all subjects 24/7 through Brainfuse. Log into the MyVWCC portal and choose the option for Brainfuse to sign in. Then, choose the topic & subject you need help with and you’ll be matched with an online tutor. Click Connect to begin working with your tutor right away. Brainfuse also includes flashcards, practice quizzes, and study guides that can be accessed 24/7 online.
Brown Library, including the Learning Commons, Writing & Research Center, computer labs, and Testing Center will have modified hours during Winter Break.
Winter Break hours are as follows:
December 21-January 5: Campus is closed for the holidays.
January 6-January 19: The Learning Commons, on the first and second floors of the library, will be open Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, and closed Saturdays & Sundays.
The Testing Center will be open normal operating hours January 6-January 18: Monday-Thursday, 8am-8pm, Friday, 8am-5pm, and Saturday, 9am-1pm.
All tutoring services, including the STEM Center, the Writing & Research Center, and the Link Computer Lab in B112, will be closed from December 20-January 19 while classes are not in session. Normal hours will resume on January 20.

For the college’s Thanksgiving holiday, Brown Library, including the Learning Commons, Writing & Research Center, and computer lab, will be open from 8am-5pm on Tuesday, November 26 and from 8am-12pm on Wednesday, November 27. The Testing Center will be open from 8am-8pm on Tuesday, November 26 and from 8am-12pm on Wednesday, November 27. We will be closed from Wednesday, November 27 at noon until Monday December 2, when normal hours resume.
