Virginia Western faculty who wish to make use of the Testing Center should review the following policies and procedures regarding make-up and Online Learning tests.
Online/Hybrid Course Tests
The Testing Center provides testing services to faculty teaching online/hybrid classes per the Online Course Policy I-L2. Please follow these guidelines to facilitate student testing in the Testing Center.
- Please attach a Class Roster to the Testing Information Sheet.
- Please send us the Testing Information Sheet BEFORE the test is scheduled to begin. We do not want to turn any students away!
- The date range for the test needs to be at least 3 days, preferably more. We cannot test a whole class at one time, or even in one day.
- All paper tests should be clearly labeled regarding the course number, chapter(s) or unit(s) being tested, the instructor’s name, and the semester the test is to be administered. This helps ensure your students are taking the appropriate test.
- Each paper test or answer sheet should have the student’s name on it.
- There should be as many paper tests available as there are students who will be taking the test. The Testing Center is unable to make copies of tests for you.
- For Online tests, please make sure that the test is published in Canvas, that it is easily accessible by the student, and that the availability dates and password are set correctly. Please Note: The Testing Center does not have webcams. Please turn that option off if you use Respondus Monitor on your Canvas tests! If you need any help with set up options in Respondus or Canvas, please contact Erin Leftwich in the Online Learning Dept at eleftwich@virginiawestern.edu or 540-857-6687.
- The Testing Center staff will make every attempt to ensure a secure testing environment. If a testing inconsistency occurs, the instructor will be notified.
- The Testing Center does not recommend that students use personal devices to access their notes or ebooks. Testing Center staff are not able to monitor what students are actually accessing on their personal devices.
- Please inform your students to bring a government issued photo ID with them and their cell phone to complete multi-factoring for a Canvas test.
- Students do not need to make an appointment, unless they have accommodations through the Office of Disability Services.
- Please be very specific on the Testing Information Sheet about what to do with completed tests, scrap paper and notes used, if applicable.
- The Testing Center will not be responsible for scoring tests.
- The instructor will be responsible for cleaning out his/her file at the end of each semester, identifying incompletes, and leaving files up-to-date at the beginning of each new semester. If this procedure does not occur, all tests will be sent back to the instructor at the end of the semester.
- The Testing Center reserves the right to refuse to test students when these procedures have not been followed.
Instructors should thoroughly complete a Testing Information Sheet.
Make-Up Tests
The Testing Center will provide testing services for students who need to make up tests that they missed during regular class time. The Testing Center will not, however, be able to provide services for re-testing a whole class. Also, the Testing Center cannot accommodate testing for an entire face-to-face class even if the test was missed due to inclement weather or personal circumstances. Please use the following guidelines to structure your make-up tests:
- Please send us the Testing Information Sheet BEFORE the student is due to arrive. We do not want to turn any students away!
- Please put the names of the students testing on the Testing Information Sheet
- All paper tests should be clearly labeled regarding the course number, chapter(s) or unit(s) being tested and the instructor’s name. This helps ensure your students are taking the appropriate test.
