Responsibilities and Procedures

Student Testing Responsibilities

Students who plan to take tests in the Testing Center should familiarize themselves with the following procedures.

Student Responsibilities
  • Tests will be turned in when the Center closes. The Testing Center will not give out tests in the last half hour of testing to ensure that there is enough time for the student to complete the test in one sitting. However, ultimately, students are responsible for determining the amount of time required to take a test.
  • Tests will not be given back to a student to work on a second time without permission from the instructor.
  • Students taking tests are responsible for knowing their course name and number, test number, and also the instructor's name.
  • Students need to know their user name and password to access their MyVWCC account.
  • Students will provide a picture identification prior to taking an exam. This needs to be a Virginia Western Student ID or another government issued photo ID.
  • Students will sign in and out of the Testing Center Sign In System.
  • Students will be responsible for leaving book bags and notes in the designated area.
  • Students are responsible for bringing #2 pencils and clean paper, if needed.
  • Students must turn off and put away all electronic devices.
  • No children are allowed in the Testing Center area.
Academic Integrity
  • When testing, students will abide by Virginia Western's Student Conduct Policy; the policy is posted at each testing station.
  • During testing, the Testing Center staff will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the testing environment.
  • If there is a suspected incident or testing inconsistency in violation of the Student Conduct Policy, the Testing Center will report the incident and give any supporting materials to the faculty member.
  • After the report has been made, the faculty member will be responsible for enforcing school policies.
Academic Dishonesty

Virginia Western's Student Conduct Policy states that students shall refrain from behaving in a dishonest manner. Dishonesty includes acts of cheating, stealing, and plagiarism. Violations of this policy could result in disciplinary action. For more information regarding Virginia Western's policy on academic dishonesty, read the policy.

Faculty Testing Procedures

Virginia Western faculty who wish to make use of the Testing Center should review the following policies regarding make-up and Online Learning tests.

Make-Up Testing

The Testing Center will provide testing services to faculty for students who need to make up tests that they missed during regular class time. The Testing Center will not, however, be able to provide services for re-testing a whole class. Please use the following guidelines to structure your make-up testing procedures:

  • Testing will be limited to make-up tests only.
  • Faculty should complete a Testing Information Sheet.
  • All tests should be clearly labeled with regard to the course title, course number, chapter(s) or unit(s) being tested and the instructor’s name.
  • Each test or answer sheet should be clearly labeled with the student's name.
  • There should be as many tests available as there are students who will be taking the test. The Testing Center is unable to make copies of tests for you.
  • The Testing Center staff will proctor testing on a limited basis. If a testing inconsistency occurs, the instructor will be notified.
  • The Testing Center staff will not be responsible for scoring tests.

With the volume of mail we process and the number of tests we administer, the Testing Center is unable to return tests to faculty on a specified date. If a faculty member wants a test returned on a specific date, he or she will have to call us or email us to request that the test be sent out in that day's mail. We are unable to keep track of everyone's test schedules.

Online Course Tests

The Testing Center provides testing services to faculty teaching online classes per the Online Course Policy I-L2. Please follow these guidelines to facilitate student testing in the Testing Center.

  • Instructors should complete a Testing Information Sheet.
  • All tests should be clearly labeled with regard to the course title, course number, chapter(s) being tested, the instructor's name, and the semester the test is to be administered.
  • Each test will be required to have the student's name on it, either handwritten or labeled.
  • There should be as many tests available as there are students who will be taking the test. The Testing Center is unable to make copies of tests for you.
  • The Testing Center staff will proctor testing on a limited basis. If a testing inconsistency occurs, the instructor will be notified.
  • The Testing Center will not be responsible for scoring tests.
  • The instructor will be responsible for cleaning out his/her file at the end of each semester, identifying incompletes, and leaving files up-to-date at the beginning of each new semester. If this procedure does not occur, all tests will be sent back to the instructor.
  • The Testing Center reserves the right to refuse to test students when these procedures have not been followed.
