General Qualifications:
The ability to work in multiple environments and weather conditions. Work will be indoors and out as well as in campus greenhouse. Ability to switch tasks throughout the work period. Ability to work independently as well as in a group setting. Preferred (not required) skills – previous experience working with plants, outdoor power equipment, and greenhouse control systems.

Purpose or Role of the Position within the Organization:
To provide exposure and experience in a greenhouse and landscape environment, horticulture programs, and provide help in keeping horticulture department facilities clean, organized, and safe.
Duties/Responsibilities of the position and how they relate to the purpose or role
- Assist with maintenance of horticulture facilities to include cleaning / sanitizing plant containers in greenhouse, update hardgoods inventory for greenhouse, Natural Science Center and Arboretum,
- Keep daily records for the greenhouse and the Arboretum
- Clean and maintain tools used in horticulture labs and the Arboretum
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of N102, greenhouse, and storage building, working in the greenhouse with temperatures in the 80’s or greater
- Assist with horticulture programs to include assisting with labeling of plants in the greenhouse and Arboretum, assist with cataloging plant collections in greenhouse and Arboretum using spreadsheets, working alongside Master Gardener, community volunteers, and horticulture Students
- Assist with guided tour activities in the Arboretum and greenhouse.
- Assist with maintenance of tropical plant collection in greenhouse.
- Assist with watering, weeding, mechanical insect control in greenhouse.
- Assist with maintenance of plant collection beds in the Arboretum – pulling weeds, watering, deadheading, leaf removal, mulch application, cleaning pond filters. Transplanting seedlings, plugs and cuttings using peat base media (seasonally).
- Assist with planting bedding plants in the Annual beds in the Arboretum (Spring Semester only).
- Greet guests visiting the greenhouse and Arboretum.
- Assist with preparation of education/outreach projects.Provide exposure to greenhouse and landscaping experience to include working outside in the Arboretum using gardening tools and power equipment, working with planting media, soil, and fertilizers, assist with maintaining outdoor power equipment, oil changes, winterization, etc.
- Other tasks as assigned
