Physical Location: The Business Science Building, Room M302, on the campus of Virginia Western Community College, 3094 Colonial Ave SW, Roanoke, VA.
Duties/Responsibilities of the position and how they relate to the purpose or role
The CS/IT department relies on Federal Work Study students to provide support for the Cybersecurity Lab and the Networking lab. This position requires that applicants demonstrate successful completion of no less than one semester in CS/IT, or Engineering specific courses.
Federal Work Study student will provide consistent support for the Cybersecurity Lab and Networking Lab. Position is responsible for:
- Ensuring the labs are opened and closed on each shift day.
- Basic cleaning of lab equipment.
- Simple networking tasks such as racking and wiring of IT equipment.
- Maintaining order in the lab by ensuring all students are following the Cybersecurity Honor Code, not abusing equipment, and keeping their voices low.
- Create and maintain cybersecurity, networking, and programming special projects as assigned by faculty.
- Providing support to the CS Club.
- Regular and consistent communication with each other and CS/IT faculty.
- Starting and participating in CAE required events throughout the semester.
- Using downtime in lab to grow skills in IoT, programming, networking, and other technologies in order to provide the best support to students using the lab.
- Attending CS/IT events that fall outside the regular schedule when possible.
- Other duties as assigned by CS/IT Faculty.
