Reports to: Dean of Student Affairs (FA099)
The Director of Financial Aid, Veteran Affairs and Records is responsible for the professional direction of the institution’s comprehensive programs of student financial aid, veterans’ affairs and records office. General direction is provided to each functional area. Based upon directives from the Dean of Student Affairs, develops strategic plans, budgets, operational goals and assessments of program effectiveness. Serves as a member of the Student Affairs management team reporting directly to the Dean of Student Affairs.
Work Tasks & Duties
70% | Leads, directs and manages daily operations of the Financial Aid, Veteran’s and Records Office. Plans, develops and administers budgets for these programs. Develops, coordinates and interprets policies and procedures related to financial aid, records and Veterans. Serves as the final determination of professional judgment to determine dependency and special circumstance situations. Prepares documentation for APA, VCCS, Federal audits, and other reporting as required. Responds and make changes as directed by audit. Keeps current the information used by USED to recertify edibility to participate in federal financial aid programs. Serves as a financial aid resource both within and outside of the college community. Remain current of state and federal financial aid regulations and communicate changes to affected constituents. Develops and coordinates procedures and programs to insure an efficient and effective process to maintain the academic records of the college. |
20% | Member of Guided Pathways Leadership Team and the Academic Success Team. Serves on college governance, program and special committees. Assist with updating college policies related to Financial Aid, Records and Veteran’s Affairs. Advises students or prospective students to correct problems or to determine actions relative to their financial aid or academic record. Other duties as assigned by Dean of Student Affairs. |
5% | Conducts assessments for Institutional Effectiveness and provides data on an annual basis. Evaluates employee performance, schedules work activities, approves leave request and takes corrective actions as appropriate in employee matters. Cultivate and manage relationships with third-party vendors to insure positive student experience and product effectiveness. |
5% | Pursues professional development activities. Maintains membership in the Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrator (VASFAA). Attends professional development conferences and workshops, including the annual VASFAA Conference, the annual SASFAA conference, the annual NASFAA conference, the annual VCCS Peer Group Conference, the VCCS Council of Deans and Directors meetings, and the annual FSA conference. |
