The Coordinator of Library Services provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for the comprehensive development and operation of library services. This position provides supervision, planning, and administration of the library, the testing center, and the academic tutoring program, which all support the diverse information and learning needs of students, faculty, staff, and the community. The Coordinator of Library Services serves as a resource for the college in the areas of information literacy instruction, research, and academic support.
Responsibilities
Operations Management (60%)
- Plans, delivers, and assesses library programs, services, and collections to support the instructional programs of the college.
- Develops and oversees library policies and procedures as appropriate to the college’s programs, curriculum, and user needs.
- Develops and monitors building-wide staffing plans for library, testing, and tutoring services, in collaboration with library management team.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises library staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Provides mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to enhance staff expertise and performance.
- Directly supervises three Librarians, as well as the Academic Link and Testing Coordinator. Sets performance expectations, provides feedback, and conducts annual evaluations. Approves time worked and leave requests. Recommends faculty employees (i.e., Librarians) for multi-year appointments, as applicable.
- In collaboration with the Dean of Learning Resources and Online Learning, manages the library’s budgets effectively, including allocation of resources for collection development, personnel, technology upgrades, and staff development.
- Oversees the development and maintenance of a diverse and relevant collection of print and electronic resources, ensuring that it aligns with the curriculum and meets the needs of students and faculty.
- Oversees the College Archive to support the preservation of the college’s history.
- Oversees the library’s program to support faculty to adopt, adapt, and create open educational resources (OERs) that map to the curriculum.
- Performs professional librarian duties, such as reference and instruction, as needed.
Strategic Leadership and Direction (25%)
- Provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for the comprehensive development and operation of library services.
- Develops and executes a strategic plan that aligns with the college’s mission and goals, in consultation with the Dean and library staff.
- Advances the library’s role in supporting the changing needs of the academic community and the information environment.
- Stays abreast of emerging technologies and implements innovative solutions to enhance library services ensuring that the library remains technologically equipped to meet the evolving needs of the college community.
- Develops methods to assess the effectiveness of library programs and services to ensure that they effectively support the college’s goals.
- Directs the development and management of library instructional offerings in support of college-wide online, offsite, and on-campus programs.
College Resource and Library Champion (15%)
- Serves as a resource for the college in the areas of information literacy instruction, OER, access to information, and academic support.
- Champions efforts to integrate information literacy competencies into the curriculum, as well as the broader lives of students.
- Builds effective working relationships and collaborates with Deans, faculty, and other college stakeholders to support student success and retention.
- Promotes library programs and offerings to enhance awareness among students, faculty and staff.
- Serves on college, VCCS, regional, and consortium committees as needed.
- Keeps informed of current professional developments in the field and supports staff in doing the same.
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
