Reports to: Dean of Health Professions (FA186)
Under the supervision of the Dean of Health Professions, the Administrative Officer for Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program will be responsible for overall leadership, development, direction, and administration of all aspects of the PTA program. This position ensures that the program is in compliance with all laws and regulations of the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Supervision and Management (60%)
Program Supervision and Management (e.g., budget, policies, procedures, curriculum development, program evaluation, etc.)
- Responsible for developing and documenting policies and procedures, planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating all aspects of the program
- With faculty input and in collaboration with the Dean of Health Professions, develops and documents program policies and procedures. Monitors implementation of policies and procedures to ensure consistency and effectiveness. Re-examines and modifies as necessary
- Maintain knowledge and currency regarding the program and the policies and procedures by which it is administered
- Develops, implements, and monitors department budget; pursues other funding sources such as grants
- Attends meetings as the department representative
- Ensures ongoing program evaluation; takes appropriate action to resolve problems or nonconformance items
Accreditation Management & Compliance
- Ensures compliance with Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) rules and regulations
- Communicates, reports, and interprets program requirements, objectives, and CAPTE requirements to administration and other departments
- Collects and organizes data necessary in pursuit of CAPTE accreditation to include the initial candidacy report, and development of self-study required to deliver a PTA program
Student Management (e.g., clinical rotations, assignments, handbook, monitors performance, maintains records)
- Plans, manages and evaluates program admissions, recruitment, advanced placement, and outreach
- Maintains student records and monitors overall student performance
- Maintains and updates PTA Student Handbook assuring accurate and up-to-date content of program policies and procedures. Ensures consistency between Student Handbook, course syllabi, and CAPTE regulations.
Personnel Management (e.g., PT interviewing, hiring, assists with credentialing, FT orientation and mentoring, committees, meeting chair, etc.)
- Manages the clinical coordinator for the PTA program. Ensure duties best support the program and tasks are completed accurately and timely
- Maintains an approved part-time clinical faculty list. In collaboration with the Dean, interviews and selects part-time clinical instructors and classroom adjunct faculty. Ensures that all recommended candidates meet CAPTE credentialing standards
- Screens and recommends candidates for adjunct faculty appointments, assuring that faculty meet the CAPTE requirements for PTA
- Coordinates and oversees orientation and mentoring of new faculty
- Coordinates all departmental faculty committees and PTA advisory committees
Community Relations
- Interacts with health care professionals to maintain strong community relations
- Chairs Curriculum Advisory Committee
Clinical Management (e.g., contracts, visits, etc.)
- Oversees Clinical Coordinator in the coordination, development, and approval of student assignments to clinical group/rotations
Teaching and Advising (30%)
- Teaches program courses according to program needs.
- Holds defined office hours
- Advises students and participates in advising initiatives (i.e., Navigate, etc.)
Curriculum Development, Evaluation and Revisions (10%)
- Curriculum development and implementation, including coordination with curriculum committee and collaboration with the Virginia Community College System as needed
- Develops, evaluates and revises curriculum to ensure that program standards meet VCCS, CAPTE accreditation, and College guidelines. Prepares documentation for curriculum reports and catalog changes
