Reports to: Dean of Health Professions (FA186)
This position serves as the program administrator for the Surgical Technology program. The position is responsible for compliance with the Accreditation Review Council on Education In Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Educational Standards (ARC/STSA), the oversight of the didactic component of the curriculum and the management of the clinical sites, recruitment and evaluation of adjunct faculty, admission and retention of students and leadership and guidance of faculty.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Supervision and Management (50%)
- Supervises all aspects of the program, including the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program.
- Recruits, supervises, and evaluates adjunct faculty.
- Chairs the Curriculum Advisory Committee and communicates with members by mail and phone regarding pertinent issues related to the advisory role.
- Develops, evaluates and revises curriculum to ensure that program standards meet VCCS, ARC/STSA accreditation, and VWCC guidelines. Prepares documentation for programmatic curriculum reports and catalog changes.
- Submits annual departmental budget for fiscal administration of the program.
- Annually update, analyze and assess the programmatic goals and outcomes through an established formal ongoing Program Assessment Process.
- Chairs the Surgical Technology Admissions Committee and directs processes for selecting students.
- Interacts with medical professionals to maintain good community relations.
Teaching (50%)
- Maintains an academic teaching load each semester.
- Maintains student records and monitors overall student performance.
