Summary
Administrative Officer for Training Solutions (Corporate Training) at VWCC plays a unique role at the college. This role primarily serves adult learners and is focused on transforming lives and strengthening communities by providing high quality career and workforce training. The Corporate Training Program Manager is responsible for effectively navigating the life cycle of career and workforce training solutions, continually bringing new and improved courses to market across a variety of disciplines. The incumbent actively assesses/identifies training opportunities (then sells the training solutions), designs and develops the training, successfully implements the courses, and then evaluates results (the ADDIE model).
This position’s primary focus is Corporate (also referred to as contract) training solutions, meaning a major responsibility of the position is to recommend, develop, sell, and deliver training solutions to meet the unique training needs of regional business, governmental, and other organizational stakeholders. The Corporate Training Program Manager also supports the VCCS Strategic Plan through facilitating in-demand open enrollment courses typically leading to industry-recognized credentials. Open enrollment courses are open to the public and offered on a continuous basis. The two types of training are not mutually exclusive as quality open-enrollment courses can form the basis for quality contract training modules and vice versa. Project management skills are vital, as the program developer should have multiple contract-training and open-enrollment courses consistently in the process of development.
This position requires an adult education focus with a shared quality and production mindset, and the ability to meet client and student expectations. This position will be accountable for course revenue and business development goals, set annually in collaboration with immediate supervisor and other applicable leaders.
Work Tasks & Duties
Relationship Building (20%)
Establishes and enhances relationships across local industries to ensure Virginia Western remains top-of-mind among community stakeholders with regard to corporate training solutions. Facilitates innovative collaborations with area businesses, primarily for the purpose of assessing current and future needs, and providing training solutions. Directly responsible for increasing revenue through new, enhanced, and sustained business relationships, that result in paid training and educational opportunities. Ensures solution pricing is accurate and productive. Serves as liaison with business customers throughout the exploration, development, and debrief stages; seeks real-time feedback and aligns solutions accordingly. Cold calls, repeat business, and referrals are all part of the job, with repeat business and referrals preferred sales priorities. Client satisfaction as demonstrated by repeat business, survey responses, and other means is critical, as are meeting gross and net revenue targets from a business perspective. Maintains up-to-date, transparent, and accurate digital client management tool. Engages in outreach efforts. Ensures accurate and timely proposals, agreements, and other required instruments are provided in alignment with college policies and practice. May serve on area business and community boards or workgroups, as appropriate, and represents the college with regard to workforce business development.
Establishes collegial and collaborative relationships with college faculty and staff to ensure that business solutions are aligned with college goals and academic pathways, as feasible. Acts as a conduit to ensure that faculty and business maintain awareness of industry/field advancements and changes from the complimentary perspective. Works effectively and collegially with colleagues and maintains quality and professional relationships with representatives of business concerns throughout the valley. Is mindful of and participates in activities designed to improve practice and productivity as program developer.
Content Development (15%)
Needs assessment, solution design, and sales are the first steps before developing, implementing, and assessing the effectiveness of the training program. Developers must assess needs and sell training. Identifies needs, recommends/develops quality training products, and hires/supervises the right trainers.
Content Quality Review (15%)
Administers quality control responsibility for contract and open enrollment courses. Evaluates and improves success of new and current courses under development, including quality of instruction, curriculum, and other factors such as modality of course delivery, time of day, and student readiness.
Available to course coordinators and others to perform same evaluation and improvements with regard to existing courses when these other stakeholders identify performance issues. Regularly reports on course quality and recommends/implements improvements. Keeps current in field through appropriate professional development opportunities. Regular and collegial contributor to the overall development of college processes, procedures, practices, and success. Suggests, develops, and implements improvements to internal processes.
Corporate Training Delivery (15%)
May also serve as corporate trainer at times given incumbent expertise, business need, and priorities.
Supervision (15%)
Provides supervisory oversight to adjunct instructors and others according to HR policy (e.g. hiring, onboarding, performance management, separation, etc.), and in a manner that encourages retention, high team morale, and high team performance (enrollment, sales, etc.).
Open Enrollment Courses (10%)
Utilizes ADDIE program development skills and responsibilities to effectively develop (new and existing) open-enrollment courses as needed, utilizing labor market data research and interpretation skills. Partners with industry customers and college peers to ensure alignment between expectation and delivery, including process, training capacity, short- and long-term strategy, and prioritization. Discerns and verifies a variety of open-enrollment course and program development needs through a variety of means, including the ability to define labor market needs through labor market data and confirm details of demand (quantity, competency levels, delivery modality, etc.) through consultation with business, college, and community stakeholders. Develops and utilizes business/curriculum advisory committees as necessary to aid the development of courses. Develops a course shell, curriculum, and maintains primary responsibility for ensuring that the designed course achieves stated key objectives. Develops and adapts course curriculum both with and without assistance. Provides for course instruction, as needed and appropriate, oversees the business or organizational solution to be provided and ensures quality control. Secures highly regarded instructors for additional courses; assesses and approves course syllabi and/or content as needed. Monitors and positively impacts student success (e.g. student enrollment, completion, credential attainment, job placement, and satisfaction). Efficiently and effectively prepares new courses for success and eventual hand-off to Course Coordinators to operate.
Other Duties (5%)
Demonstrates emotional and cognitive flexibility, providing other duties as assigned-in a timely, accurate, and professional manner-in support of VCCS, college, and greater mission. An integral part of all duties, administration, record keeping, and organization is also a macro expectation. Adheres to rules, regulations, policies, and practices concerning VCCS, college, and course/program regulators. Accurate, timely, and accessible record-keeping, ensuring protection of personally identifiable information.
