Each student with a disability at VWCC has the right to:
- An equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from courses, programs, services or activities
- An equal opportunity to work and to learn, to receive reasonable accommodations, academic adjustments, and/or auxiliary aids and services
- The assurance that all disability-related records will be confidential and maintained separately from college/university records in accordance with applicable law
- An accommodation in a timely manner once it has been properly requested
- Discuss accommodations with each instructor, identifying which accommodation will be utilized for each class
Each student with a disability at VWCC is responsible for:
- Identifying himself/herself as an individual with a disability to the Office of Disability Services (ODS)
- Providing appropriate documentation from a qualified professional
- Initiating all requests for accommodations and services each semester
- Understanding accommodations are not retroactive
- Working with ODS and the instructor in obtaining and implementing accommodations
- Taking responsibility for using or not using accommodations
- Meeting qualifications and maintaining essential institutional standards for courses, programs, services or activities
- Informing ODS in a timely manner when concerns arise
If a student has questions or problems concerning the appropriateness of an accommodation, he or she must contact ODS.
