There are new and important IT changes that have been implemented in response to the Virginia Governor’s Executive Order 46, which bans the use of DeepSeek AI on state devices and state-run networks. This order is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the security and safety of our IT infrastructure.
What is Changing?
Effective immediately, the following changes have been implemented:
- The DeepSeek AI application has been blocked from all VCCS-connected devices and networks.
- Access to DeepSeek AI websites has been restricted across our network.
Why is This Change Necessary?
Governor Glenn Youngkin’s Executive Order 46 mandates these changes to protect the security and privacy of our institutional and personal data and to protect against foreign national cybersecurity threats. By implementing these changes, we are:
- Enhancing the security and integrity of our IT systems.
- Ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Protecting sensitive data from potential security threats.
What You Need to Know
- If you attempt to access DeepSeek AI from any VCCS network, you will receive an access denial message.
- If you have previously installed DeepSeek AI on any VCCS-managed device, please refrain from using it and contact IT immediately.
- These restrictions apply to all faculty, staff, students, VCCS contractors and guests using VCCS-managed devices and networks.
