On Thursday, May 17, 2024, the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service was held at First Baptist Church in Roanoke. This service is dedicated to honoring the lives of the forty-five law enforcement officers in our region who have been killed in the line of duty dating back to 1892. Our area suffered this loss as recently as 2022 when Caleb D. Ogilvie was gunned down while responding to a domestic disturbance in Covington. Caleb’s loss hit remarkably close to home as he was a recent graduate of Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy in Salem. This is the academy of record for the Virginia Western Police Department. Virginia Western is one of the founding charter agencies for Cardinal Academy when it was established back in 1983. Below is a link to the service that is held each year in May, during National Police Week. We want you to know that all are welcomed to attend this most important service.
Thank you from the Virginia Western Police Department.
