Remembering David Baylor

Dear Virginia Western friends, colleagues and students,

It is with great sadness that I tell you David Carlton Baylor, one of our Liberal Arts and Social Sciences adjunct faculty members, passed away on April 8, 2023.  David taught history classes for us and was currently teaching HIS 111 in the evenings. David died suddenly from a heart attack. He had been teaching for us since 2013 and was also a full-time employee for Roanoke City Public Schools. He will surely be missed.

According to Annette Chamberlin, his Program Head for the Social Science Program, “Professor Baylor was inspirational to all of his students. He always worked hard to make certain everyone in his classes felt comfortable and excited to learn history. Professor Baylor will be remembered by his students for his love of history, his positive energy and his overwhelming desire to make certain all students were successful. His students have been profoundly changed in amazing ways because of his devotion to learning.”

Please keep David’s family, his colleagues, his students and his friends in your prayers.
