Our campus signage will undergo a transformation over the coming months–enhancing pedestrian wayfinding and adding to the beauty of our campus. The signage project was born out of the recommendations received from college senates and student and employee surveys to improve campus wayfinding signage.
A Signage Workgroup was formed to include campus-wide representation of students, faculty, staff and administration to ensure strong engagement and understanding of campus needs. The workgroup informed the signage design in all aspects. They reviewed and vetted test mock-ups, lettering font/sizes, colors, content, naming conventions and locations. Signs were developed for parking lot ID, vehicle direction, pedestrian direction, building identification, four campus map kiosks, two LED signs, and a lighted marquee sign on the gym facing I-581. After extensive planning, input and review by multiple groups, the campus signage project bid was initiated in 2022.
The workgroup was very intentional about their approach. As you will see on the updated map, buildings are now identified by letters that coordinate with each building’s name, as opposed to numbers. This, along with coordinated wayfinding signage, will help students more easily find their classroom in the appropriate building based on the coordinating key found in their class schedules. Parking lots have also been renumbered in a logical sequence given recent construction. Visitors and first-time and returning students should be able to navigate campus more easily using the improved signage and map. As the signs are installed and parking lots change numbers, we appreciate your patience and understanding with this transition.
