The Community Colleges Research Center (CCRC) at Columbia University has published this article as an update to their 2015 book, Redesigning America’s Community Colleges: A Clearer Path to Student Success. Their original work outlined the guided pathways model that Virginia Western uses as a tool to provide equitable experiences and opportunities for success for our diverse student body. After years of research on campuses and reflection through COVID-19, CCRC offers updated methodology in the areas of program organization and design, new student onboarding, remediation and academic support, ongoing student advising, and teaching and learning. Their specific recommendations for focus include onboarding and advising, experiential learning, and clear, individualized educational pathways to maximize success for all students.
