Virginia Western sadly lost another member of our college family this weekend when Gordon Hancock passed away at age 87. Gordon was a constant in the admissions and records offices before retiring after nearly 30 years at Virginia Western. He was named Professor Emeritus in 2011 and was always a friendly face around campus.
“Dealing with students on a daily basis was a real highlight of my life,” Gordon said in 2011. “I saw students face every kind of problem imaginable – academic, financial, disciplinary, health and more – but the nice thing was that I had the authority and ability to help solve the problem. And I got to do it in a wonderful environment with people I truly loved.”
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at Oakey’s South Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Oakey’s South Chapel.
