Do you like using your hands and your mind? Are you passionate about finding a career that can affect the lives of everyone around you by finding new treatments for diseases like cancer or diabetes, discovering new energy sources and cleaning up the environment, or making sure people have food and clean water? Do you want to help solve crimes by studying the evidence left behind? If so, the Biotechnology Career Studies Certificate at Virginia Western Community College can help you reach these goals. By adding the Biotechnology CSC to another degree, such as an A.S. of Science, Bachelor’s degree, or Medical Laboratory Technician, you will be prepared to enter the work force in a wide variety of jobs. These include becoming a Research Technician in a laboratory, Environmental Health and Safety Technician, or Forensic Scientist. You will also be ready to transfer to one of the many 4-year schools in Virginia and begin working in a research lab. Begin your journey today towards a rewarding career in Biotechnology, knowing you will be helping not only yourself, but the world around you.

Applicants must meet the requirements for admission to credit-level coursework established by the college. Applicants must currently be enrolled in the AS Science, AAS Medical Laboratory Technology, or related program at Virginia Western or have completed a degree in a similar field. Applicants must have a cumulative high school or college-level GPA of 2.0. College GPA is based on at least 12 credit hours of college credit in a 12-month time frame. The GPA is determined at the end of the fall semester prior to admission.
