- Question the student about plans to transfer to 4 year institutions
- Refer to student’s Academic Advisement report to determine courses needed for program and graduation
- Inquire specifically about the student’s own learning experiences including those related to their degree path and remaining courses that might be satisfied by the following:
- College courses from other institutions
- Standardized exams (CLEP, AP, Credit by Exam)
- Workplace training, professional certifications
- Experiential learning through volunteer activities, civic duties, family life, and other learning experiences
Please Note:
Always make sure to review the student’s transcript for traditional college credit transfers before pursuing non-traditional prior learning methods. In addition, students may have prior expertise, knowledge, training, and/or certifications that may need to be reviewed by the program head.
If a student has any of the following:
- Expert knowledge in their career field,
- Corporate and employer training, or
- Professional Certificates
They may qualify for Credit for Prior Learning. Consult with Program Head for next steps.
