Applications for the Fall 2025 class are being accepted now and all required material must be received (or postmarked) no later than February 1, 2025.  If someone is interested in the program, but wants to find out specifically what requirements they do not meet or what will be necessary, they should apply to the college, and indicate their plan of study as CSC: Intro to Radiography, and submit their official high school and college transcripts (from all colleges attempted) directly to the Health Professions Advising and Applications Office. One of the HP advising team members will review the documents and then refer the applicant to Ms. Perdue, one of the pre-admission Health Professions Advisors, or to another Health Profession Advisor or to a New Student Advisor to discuss your particular circumstances. An advising summary letter will be sent to all applicants who have submitted a completed academic file (see below). We encourage applicants to apply as early as possible for advising purposes. Current enrollment in prerequisites you lack is not required to apply early, but you must be able to complete them by the end of Spring 2025 to be considered. Applicants can work with the advisor to select appropriate courses (also work on raising GPA, if below 2.5) if they desire to pursue consideration for the program.

How To Apply

We require all application material(s) be submitted directly to the Health Professions Advising and Applications Office. If you fail to do so, be aware we will not be responsible for any delays in processing your file. Complete the following and submit in one envelope (if possible) to:

Pam Woody, VWCC – Health Professions Advising & Applications Office
3091 Colonial Ave.
Roanoke, VA 24015

You should follow the steps below, please understand a meeting with the pre-advisor is not possible with every health professions applicant to go over these. An Advising Summary letter that includes a summary of completed prerequisites and summary of support classes completed will be scanned to the email that is associated with the Navigate platform. Applicants need to be aware of the email account utilized in their Navigate and remember to check that email. Applicants also need to turn on their notifications in Navigate as well, in order to receive information from the Health Professions Advising and Applications Office.

1. Apply to VWCC.

If you are not a current VWCC student, apply to the college by completing a VWCC Application. Please make sure you indicate your plan of study as Career Studies Certificate: Introduction to Radiography (curricular/credit classes) on the college application.

New students intending to enroll in classes at Virginia Western should consider a visit/phone call to speak with the Enrollment Center staff in Chapman Hall, if they have basic questions about direct enrollment, course requirements, financial aid, etc. You do not typically need an appointment at the enrollment center and it’s a great way to learn more about available resources. They will refer you to one of the pre-admission advisors for Radiography, when necessary. Check the website as sometimes walk-ins are permitted in Chapman for new student advising.

Please note that if you submit your official transcripts prior to applying to VWCC, your transcripts may not be matched with your name. It is very important to complete the VWCC application and then submit the application materials.

2. Apply to the Radiography Program.

Apply to the Radiography Program by completing a 2025 Radiography Application Form.

3. Obtain your transcripts.

Have all official sealed transcripts (high school and college) and a copy of GED scores (if applicable). We strongly suggest applicants request transcripts be sent to the applicant’s mailing address, so you are fully aware of whether your request has been completed and all material can be placed by you in one larger envelope for submission. Remember, do not open any envelope which contains a transcript, they are no longer “official” to us when you open them. It is the applicant’s responsibility to request their own transcripts and pay any required fees. Faxed transcripts or email attachments are not considered “official” for application.

If any school’s policy prevents issuance of “official” transcripts directly to student, please request they be sent addressed to Pam Woody at the address above.  Please do not request transcripts from VWCC or any other community college in Virginia.  Transfer information provided on a subsequent schools transcript is not acceptable in lieu of the actual originating schools transcript. Transcripts originally submitted to other VCCS colleges, cannot then be submitted to VWCC to complete your academic file  VWCC requires the original official transcripts to be sent to VWCC. College graduates must still provide their official HS transcript. GED holders must also submit official high school transcripts, if completed at least through the 9th grade. Home-schooled students must provide a detailed curriculum completion report (course listings and grades achieved) from their school administrator (including a statement indicating if a lab component was completed for any Biology and/or Chemistry classes).

4. Submit your application materials.

We suggest mailing your application packet to Miss Woody at the address above. Material being hand-delivered to campus should be brought to the 3rd floor of the Fralin Center, Room HP339. The Health Professions Advising and Applications Office is usually accessible from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. If the office is closed, you may slide your items under the door of Fralin, Room 339. It is important to apply to VWCC and indicate your plan of study as CSC: Introduction to Radiography, prior to submission of academic materials to VWCC.

5. Review the Radiography Checklist.

One of the Health Professions Advising Team Members will be in contact by email once an applicant has supplied all their transcripts. The pre-advisor does not have any input in the final admission decisions for a program, so face-to-face contact with the advisor is not a requirement.

Details about the entrance test (HESI) and interviews with the program faculty will be emailed after the February 1st deadline (probably early March) to qualified applicants. We plan to use the Navigate platform, so please turn on your email notifications and remember which email is associated with your Navigate account.

In addition, complete the math survey questions listed here and follow any directions as indicated by your score. You need to be ready for the math required to be successful in the Radiography physics portion of the second year of the program, if accepted into the program. The self-guided math quiz will be posted here in the summer.
