Virginia Western offers a variety of programs and certificates to meet students’ needs.
Career Studies Program – A course of study in a specific occupational area that consists of less than 30 credit hours. In general, these programs of study prepare students for a very specific occupation and do not prepare students for transfer to a four year institution.
Certificate Program – A course of study in a specific occupational area that consists of a minimum of 30 credit hours. In general, these programs of study prepare students for a specific occupation and do not prepare students for transfer to a four year institution.
Associate of Applied Science – A course of study in an occupational area that consists of a minimum of 60 credit hours. In general, these programs of study prepare students for the work world. Some of these programs are transferable to a four year institution, but the objective is to prepare students for a specific career.
Associate of Science/Associate of Art – A course of study in a subject area that consists of a minimum of 60 credit hours. In general, these programs of study prepare students to transfer to a four year institution and complete a four year degree. These degrees are not designed to prepare students to immediately enter the workforce.
