Pharmacy Technician Program

Learn the necessary skills required to obtain a Pharmacy Technician position. The VWCC Pharmacy Technician program is intended to provide students with a well-rounded introduction into the field of Pharmacy. The twelve-week program will prepare students to work with pharmacists to offer safe and effective patient care.  The course covers important information on accurately filling prescriptions, calculations, routes and formulations, proper schedule for taking medications, drug interaction, customer service and interpersonal skills, medical ethics and law, medical terminology, basics of insurance billing, and medical records. 

Upon successful completion graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as a Pharmacy Technician in Virginia and be prepared to take the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam.

Program Details

Requirements

Students must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.

Students must be computer literate and have access to a computer with Internet access, an email address, and printing capabilities. Students must take the Placement Tests at the Learning Center in Brown Library. While no specific limits are prescribed by this program, students are advised that the State and National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board and many employers will have restrictions and limits and may require items such as background checks or drug testing.

Financial assistance is available for those who are qualified to receive it.
