Machining

The non-credit, intensive Machining program introduces students to the knowledge and skills they will need to be successful as entry level Machinists technicians in a manufacturing setting.

Program Details

The Machining-Turning course offers instruction on both manual and CNC operated lathes and Mills. The course requires no previous experience. Also included is instruction in machining math, blueprint reading, and dimensioning and tolerancing. Students completing the course will sit for the NIMS (National Institute of Metalworking Skills) Level I Turning Operator and Level I Milling Operator exams. Successful completion of the courses and credentials, will qualify students for entry level machinist jobs.

Virginia Western is looking for motivated, responsible adults eager to change careers or start manufacturing or technical careers that offer competitive wages, benefits and opportunities for advancement.

Program Length:
144 Hours Total, 4 Hours/session, (12 hours/week) for 12 Weeks

Credentials Available:
OSHA 10 General Industry Certificate; NIMS Level I CNC Turning: Operator; NIMS Level I Milling: Operator
