Medication Aide

Offered Only at the Franklin Center in Rocky Mount, Va.

Students who have already completed an approved nurse aide course are eligible to take this 68 hour course approved by Virginia Board of Nursing. Students will learn basic pharmacology, the five rights of medication administration and proper techniques for oral and topical administration of medications. They will also learn how to perform blood glucose tests and how to administer insulin. Upon successful completion, they are eligible to sit for the state test to become a Registered Medication Aide.

Details

A textbook is included in the fee and provided at class. You will be responsible to supply navy blue scrub pants, white scrub shirt and predominantly white tennis shoes. You will also be required to have a watch with a second hand to use in the clinical setting. A blood pressure cuff is available for practice and available to purchase. These classes are non-credit classes and therefore not eligible for Financial Aid.

Class Requirements

  • Student must be 17 years of age or older
  • Background check of your criminal history – included in class fee
  • Student required to take a PPD Test – included in class fee
