Applying for Admission Online

Persons who have attended Virginia Western within the last three years or applied to Virginia Western within the last year are not required to complete a new Application for Admission. Please contact the Admissions Office at (540) 857-7231 for assistance.

Persons applying online must meet all eligibility requirements for admission and complete all application procedures prior to being accepted to the college.

Before you Begin

Prior to beginning the VCCS Online Admission Application process, collect all applicable documents: 

*Disclosure of your social security number is not required at the time of application to the college, but it is highly recommended. Disclosure ultimately will be required for most students at the time of enrollment, per § 6050S of the Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998, or at the time of disbursement of federal financial aid, per 34 Code of Federal Regulations Part 668.36. Section 23-2.2:1 of the Code of Virginia also authorizes the Virginia Community College System to collect student social security numbers and other personally identifiable information prior to a student’s enrollment, and requires it to electronically transmit enrollment data to the State Police. However, the VCCS will only use your social security number in accordance with federal and state reporting requirements, and for identification purposes within the VCCS. It shall not permit further disclosure unless required or authorized by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, 20 U.S.C. § 1232g, or pursuant to your obtained consent.

 

Completing the VCCS Online Admission Application

Step 1 - Personal Information

Enter the information requested.

Name

Enter your name using upper and lower case letters.  If your name has changed, you will not be able to enter your new name.  For information on changing your name, please contact the Admissions Office at (540) 857-7231.

Social Security Number

Enter your social security number.

Disclosure of your social security number is not required at the time of application to the college, but it is highly recommended. Former Name

If applicable, enter your previous name.

Date of Birth

Select the Month and Day of your birth.  Enter your birth Year.

What college will  you attend?

Select the college you plan to attend.

In what type of classes will you be enrolling?

Select the credit career if you are planning to enroll in classes for which you will receive college credit.  Select the non-credit career if you are planning to enroll in classes identified as workforce development classes. 

What campus will you attend?

Select Main for the campus.

What term do you plan to begin classes?

Select the term that you plan to attend classes.

Have you previously attended, applied for admission to, or been employed by Virginia Community College?

If you have previously attended, applied for admission, or been employed by a Virginia Community College, you have an existing Student Identification number. 

  • If you know your Student Identification number, select Yes and enter the number in the field provided.
  • If you do not know your Student Identification number, click the My VCCS link at the top of the page and click "Look up your username and set your password".
  • If you are unable to locate your Student Identification number or if you have more than one number, contact the Admissions Office at (540) 857-7231 for assistance.

If you are a new student and have never been associated with any Virginia Community College, select No.

Click Save & Continue

If you are a former student that has not been in attendance for ten years or longer, your student records have been archived. Because of this, it may take up to 24 hours for your records to be reactivated. After the 24 hour reactivation period, you may continue with the application process by using the application login ID (username) and password that you created at the beginning of the application process. If after 24 hours you are unable to complete your application, contact the Admissions Office at 540-857-7231.

Step 2: Address Information

Primary Phone Number

Enter your primary telephone number beginning with the area code.  If you do not have a telephone, please leave this field blank.

Mailing Address

Enter the street number and name on the first line.  If appropriate, enter an apartment number on the second line.  Please do not add both street address and PO Box information.


Current Residence

Select the city, county, state, or country of your current residence.


Have you lived in Virginia for the last twelve months?

Select the correct Yes or No answer. If No is selected, select the state or country of your previous residence.


Email Address

Enter your email address.  If you do not have an email address, leave this field blank.


Emergency Contact Information

Optional. If desired, enter the correct information.


Employer

Optional. If desired, enter the correct information.


Business Phone Number

Optional. If desired, enter the correct information.

Click Save & Continue


Step 3: Additional Personal Information

For Ethnicity, Gender, Citizenship Status, Primary Language, and Military Status, select the correct values.  Non-U.S. citizens must provide additional information regarding their alien status.

Click Save & Continue

Step 4: Educational History

High School Information

Click on Edit High School and select the value that represents your level of high school education. 

  • If you attended or are attending high school in the United States, click Select to search for your high school by state. 
  • If your high school is not listed, check the box that indicates My high school does not appear in the list above.
  • If you are a home-schooled student, select either Virginia or Out-of-State and enter your graduation date or anticipated graduation date.
  • If you earned a GED, select either Virginia or Out-of-State and enter the date you received your GED–Award Date with Month and Year.
  • If you attended a high school outside of the United States, select Foreign High School and enter your graduation date or anticipated graduation date.
  • Enter your graduation date or anticipated graduation date (MM/YYYY) even if your high school did not appear in the list.  If you do not know the diploma type you earned, select Standard.

College/University Information

If you have attended any college, click Add a College.  Click Select to search for your college by state and name.

  • Select the dates that you attended the college and indicate any degrees you may have earned.  If you did not earn a degree, select No degree earned.
  • Click Add a College and review the information.  If needed, you may edit or delete your selection.
  • Additional colleges may be added by clicking Add a College.  You may add up to five colleges.
  • If you attended college in a foreign country, click on Select and check I attended college outside the U.S.

Family Educational Background

Select the appropriate value.  This information is collected for statistical purposes only and has no bearing on your admission to the college.

Click Save & Continue

Step 5: Educational Goals

What is your current goal?

Select the option that best represents your educational goals.

  • If you want to pursue a degree, certificate, or diploma, select that option and click Select a Plan.  A list of Virginia Western plans will be displayed.  Select the plan that best describes your educational goals.
  • If you are currently in high school or home school, you may not select I plan to pursue a degree at this time. Select the option I do not plan to pursue a degree at this time.
  • If you do not intend to pursue a degree, certificate, or diploma, select that option.  Select a reason for taking classes.  If you are currently in high school or home school, you must select one of the options for dual enrollment: 041, 042, or 043.

Click Save & Continue

Step 6: In-State Tuition

Apply

Select this option to complete the domicile questionnaire which will be used to determine if you qualify for in-state or out-of-state tuition rates. 

  • When the In-state Tuition Questionnaire is displayed, read each item carefully and select the appropriate answer. 
  • When you have completed the questionnaire, click Save.
  • You will receive a summary of the questions and answers you provided.
  • Confirm your answers and select one of the following options:
    • Continue
    • Restart
  • Select Continue to proceed to the final submission process.

 

Step 7: Submit Your Application

Click Submit Application

  • The submission process will take several minutes.  Do not click Submit Application more than one time.
  • When the process is complete, you will receive confirmation that your application has been submitted successfully with the college and term information.  Click Continue on each page for the following information:
    • your SIS ID - (Student ID)
    • your Username and Password
    • your Tuition Information – In-State or Out-of-State Classification
    • Special Notices – additional documentation or information that may be required to complete your admission process
    • Academic Information – your assigned plan of study. If you selected a plan of study that requires special admission, such as those in Allied Health and Nursing, you will be assigned to the corresponding career studies plan.

Application Summary – Print printer the application summary page so you have a record of all information associated with your application process.
