For High School Students
Taking classes as a high school student (Dual Enrollment)
Virginia Western Community College's dual enrollment program is committed to providing local high school students with opportunities to complete college-level classes which will satisfy requirements for the completion of junior and senior high school courses.
Thus, students can complete a variety of college-level courses, usually at their own school, which will not only serve to complete high school graduation requirements, but which will also serve to complete college course requirements typically associated with freshman and sophomore level courses necessary for an associate degree or a bachelors degree.
The dual enrollment courses are essentially college-level classes taught, for the most part, by high school teachers who are fully credentialed to teach at the college level, thus insuring instructional quality. Course content, academic standards and college requirements are the same as those for any course taught by Virginia Western on its campus, so instructional content is assured as well.
Students who seek to be dual enrollment at both their high school and Virginia Western, should contact their principal or guidance counselor for specific requirements, and they must also have parental permission as well. These students must also complete a Virginia Western Community College dual enrollment application and satisfy any other requirements of their admission into the college.
