Books

Books in Brown Library are arranged in Library of Congress call number order. Each book has a unique call number, making it possible for you to find it on the shelf. Books on medicine are found in the R section. You can go to the shelves and browse or you can locate a specific book by clicking on the Books link from the right sidebar. Most of the books in Brown Library are circulating books and can be found on the top floor.

Reserves

Gale Virtual Reference Library - electronic reference books including: The Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, The Gale Encyclopedia of Mental Health, The Gale Encyclopedia of Senior Health, The Gale Encyclopedia of Surgery and Medical Tests, and The Gale Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine.

Periodicals

We only have paper subscriptions to five medical journals. Our policy is to keep 10 years of each title. These titles are currently located at the back of the reference section on the main floor.

Databases

In addition to our hard copy sources, we also provide access to periodicals through our electronic databases. Most of these databases are provided by VIVA, the Virtual Library of Virginia. These databases include references to articles that are full-text, as well as references to abstracts and citations.

Nursing periodicals full-text through VIVA - Choose the category tab and then choose health sciences. Choose the nursing subcategory and click go.

EBSCO - This group of databases includes Cinahl and Medline. Articles may be full-text, abstracts, or citations.
OVID - Electronic reference books and academic journals covering medicine and science.
Wiley InterScience - Full-text journals published by Blackwell. Limit your search to either health sciences or medicine.
