The STEM Center is a walk-in service located in Anderson Hall Room 136 where Virginia Western students can get immediate, individual assistance for most VWCC science, math, engineering, and mechatronics courses on a first-come, first-served basis. STEM Center tutors will also assist students in preparing for the math placement test and with math problems for any course; for example, dosage calculations for nursing courses and recipe conversions for culinary courses.
Students requesting assistance should log in to the STEM Center kiosk when they arrive, then let one of the tutors know that they need assistance. Tutors will be wearing nametags. Instructors will be notified of student visits to the STEM Center.
Getting the Most from Your STEM Center Visit
- Come prepared with the assignment, textbook, and tools (computer, calculator, pencil, paper, etc.) that you’ll need for your work.
- Attempt to complete your assignments yourself before asking tutors for assistance.
- Identify areas where you need assistance or prepare some questions prior to coming to the Center.
- Tutors can assist with any assignment unless the instructor has explicitly indicated that no help is allowed. You, however, are ultimately responsible for your own academic honesty.
