The VWCC Help Desk provides first level help desk support services for the college's administrative and academic offices, computer labs, faculty, staff and students. Windows XP End of Life — What does it mean to me?
Are you worried about all the news items about the "end of Windows XP" and what we are doing about it at VWCC? We want you to be assured that none of the computers in the college running Windows XP will blow up and die a horrible death any time soon. They will keep working fine as we go through the replacement process through summer since they are in a protected environment on our campus network. Read about Microsoft's explanation of what they mean by 'end of support' here and here. Please give us a call if you have any questions.

We will keep you posted about when IET staff will come by to work on your computer and what you need to be aware of to make this an easier process for everyone involved.

Heartbleed Bug
As you may have heard, a very serious Internet bug, "Heartbleed" was recently exposed. Heartbleed is a bug in commonly used encryption software that if exploited, will allow a hacker access to data otherwise encrypted over the Internet including passwords and security keys.
Web applications hosted by the VCCS and VWCC are not vulnerable to this bug. All VCCS Enterprise websites like Blackboard, SIS etc. go through a special network appliance called BigIP, which handles all the encryption and is not susceptible to the bug. At VWCC, Information and Educational Technologies has completed thorough testing and there are no current vulnerabilities on our network.
