Step 3 - Scholarships for which you are Applying

Please note the requirements of each scholarship that are provided in the Scholarship Descriptions (PDF).

When completing your application, be sure that you submit the required materials for the scholarship for which you are applying. Because the scholarship process is competitive, applying does not guarantee that you will receive a scholarship. In addition, students will not be awarded more than one scholarship. For that reason, it is important that you apply for a scholarship for which you meet the requirements and feel your qualifications will make you a strong candidate.

To apply for an Educational Foundation scholarship, you must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, be a high school graduate or have a GED, AND be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits. If the scholarship you are applying for requires you to enroll full-time, then full-time enrollment is defined as being enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.

Choose the scholarship/scholarships for which you are applying. You may apply for up to five scholarships.

Criteria for several scholarships require you to detail certain information. Please carefully read the requirements for the scholarship for which you are applying. If a scholarship requires detailed information, such as your commitment to a career, your employer, employer of a family member, living in the area, etc., use the following space to address the requirement. Failure to provide complete information for a scholarship's criteria will disqualify you from consideration.

Step 4 - Recommendations

Please print the Statements of Recommendation (PDF) and provide them to the individuals you will ask to recommend you. One recommendation statement should be completed by a Virginia Western Community College instructor and one recommendation statement should be completed by an individual outside of Virginia Western. Be sure to ask the Virginia Western instructor to complete your recommendation well in advance of the Friday, May 16, 2014 deadline. If you have never attended Virginia Western, you may request the statements be completed by former teachers, employers, or colleagues at work. Please do not use statements from relatives or friends. The person who completes the recommendation must place it in a sealed envelope and return it to you. You must HAND DELIVER the recommendations to the Educational Foundation office by 4:00 PM, Friday, May 16, 2014.

Who are the two individuals you asked to complete recommendations?

Step 5 - Academic Information

If you are currently in high school or have graduated from high school (includes dual enrollment) please provide a high school transcript. If you have completed a GED, or received a high school diploma through an alternative program, please submit proof of this completion. If you have completed at least one semester of college work at Virginia Western or transferred to Virginia Western from another institution, please provide your college transcripts (we accept unofficial Virginia Western Community College transcripts, which you may print from MyVWCC). Upon entering Virginia Western, you must have a high school diploma or GED.

All transcripts or proof of GED completion must be in the Educational Foundation office no later than 4:00 PM, Friday, May 16, 2014. Please HAND DELIVER your transcript in a sealed envelope to the Virginia Western Educational Foundation Office located in Fishburn Hall #F214.
