Student Assistance Funds

Thanks to ongoing support from our donors, the Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation is able to offer short-term financial support to students through the following programs:

Student Book Fund

The Educational Foundation recognizes students may need assistance paying for required books and supplies. Students may apply for up to $400 in book assistance at the campus bookstore.

If you are a student interested in applying, please consult a VWCC instructor or counselor. This individual will initiate your application by downloading the form from the Educational Foundation section of VWConnect (the College’s intranet). They will assist you in completing the application and process it with the Educational Foundation.

Students should not contact the Educational Foundation directly for book funds, as VWCC instructors and counselors are the only individuals who may recommend you for this funding.

Eligibility: Students must have a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA, and be enrolled in six credits or more of study.

Student Emergency Fund

The Educational Foundation's Student Emergency Fund is designed to address exceptional financial hardship impacting Virginia Western students. Examples of types of emergencies to consider: house fire, medical issues, assistance with temporary housing for a student left homeless, etc.

Funds may not be used for tuition, books, supplies or cable/satellite TV bills.  Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid, book assistance funds and/or scholarships to help with these expenses.

If approved, payment will be made directly to the company/business owed or food/gas gift cards will be provided to the student.

Emergency Fund application requests may be made for up to $500. Requests for food/gas gift cards may be made for up to $100. A student may only apply once for emergency funds and for only one type of assistance each academic year (vendor payment or gift card).
