Coordinator of Resource Development

Position Number: GA142

Reports to: Executive Director of the Educational Foundation & External Relations

This is a restricted faculty position subject to the conditions of the Virginia Western Educational Foundation, Inc. The position serves the Foundation in fund-raising and resource development plans, activities, communications and administration. In support of the Executive Director, the position promotes the college to the service area for support and giving in order to generate external resources to support student scholarships, college programs, professional development and other initiatives as determined by the college. Fund-raising and resource development activities include major gift campaigns, annual fund, alumni fund, employee giving campaigns, and special program events and initiatives. The position is governed by VCCS Policy 3.4.2; Restricted Faculty Positions. Faculty rank and VCCS salary scales do not apply; however, salary will be commensurate with the VCCS Coordinator salary range.


Actively expands and co-manages, with the Executive Director, a portfolio of major donors and major donor prospects, utilizing the support of Foundation board members, college staff and volunteers. Participates in visits as requested; to potential major donors for setting forth the campaign goals and utilizing effective fund-raising communication methods. Represents the college and the Foundation at events for the college and the Foundation to present and maintain an active profile in the community.


Plans, coordinates and implements individual and corporate giving activities, including end-of-year appeals, donor mailings, and business underwriting activities that support the Foundation's Annual Giving program. Works with the Executive Director in identifying and conducting outreach to new individual and corporate donors. Manages the Razor's Edge database to track and negotiate individual and corporate donor activities. Supervises the office manager's efforts in implementing donor appreciation and acknowledgement activities.


In cooperation with the Executive Director; creates, prepares, revises and updates mission-critical development plans to address organizational and program needs of the Foundation and the college. Presents plans and supporting documents to the Foundation Board, subcommittees and to college officials. Administers plan details upon implementation and makes any necessary changes upon direction of the Executive Director. Develops short-term and long-term fundraising plans and projections for a variety of campaigns.

20% Directs online fundraising strategies, including website content development, viral marketing, social network initiatives and E-philanthropy. Supervises the Alumni and Media Relations Specialist in facilitating alumni activities for the College and assisting in media relations for the Foundation and the college.
10% Researches, identifies, and cultivates current and potential foundation and corporate funding sources; oversees reporting requirements on grants. Works with the Executive Director on writing, preparing and submitting required reports to funders in a timely manner; maintains a calendar of application, reporting and other key dates.
