Coordinator of Library Services

Position Number: FA110

Reports to: Director of Learning Resources (FA048)

Plans and administers the library services, facility, personnel, and technology. Plans and directs a comprehensive library services program for students, faculty, staff and the general public. Reports to the Director of Learning Resources and participates in management team activities for the administration of a comprehensive academic support network.


Directs and supervises work activities of library employees by establishing operations schedules, assigning personnel to various functions, evaluating work performance, resolving problems, and assessing work flow for accurate position descriptions. Administers library programs and services in accordance with general guidelines and standards set forth by the American Library Association and other associated professional library organizations. Develops and administers strategic and operational plans for delivery of library and research services. Gathers data on library operations for the development of various reports as required by various college officials, Institutional Effectiveness and the VCCS. Develops and manages the annual library budget which includes professional development, travel, supplies, equipment, repair and maintenance, technology services and the books and periodicals funds.


Develops and administers the delivery of library information systems and technology for student, faculty and general public research and reference. Oversees all aspects of acquisitions work. Performs bibliographic verification and creates book orders. Identifies and corrects weaknesses in the collection. Develops and also weeds the collection. Creates lists of new books for faculty and library users.

20% In conjunction with and in the absence of other employees, catalogs books, circulates books, answers reference questions, and provides bibliographic instruction. Addresses complaints about the library and determines proper resolution.
20% Directs and oversees the maintenance of the library's intranet and web pages. Develops and delivers on-line tutorial and training programs in support of academic programs and supplemental to the Learning Technology Center. Trains staff on computer-related matters.
