Requirements for Admission
Any person 18 years of age or older who holds a high school diploma or equivalent can take advantage of our academic opportunities. For more detailed information, including our right to evaluate and document special cases, refer to our General Admissions Policy.
Before You Apply
The following documents will be helpful to you as you complete the online application:
- Driver's License
- Voter Registration Card
- Social Security Card (not required, but highly recommended*)
- Immigration documents
- Military papers
If your goal is a degree, certificate, or diploma, you will also need to choose a plan of study. To see what is offered at Virginia Western, visit our Programs of Study.
If you have attended Virginia Western within the last three years or completed an application within the last year, you are not required to complete a new application. Come to the Enrollment Center in Chapman Hall C108 or call 855-874-6690 for further assistance.

Applicants Requiring Additional Approval
After You Apply
Approximately 48 hours after you submit your application, you will receive an email in your student email account. This email contains information on the next steps you need to take, such as filing for financial aid, taking your placement tests, and meeting with an advisor. In addition, you will receive a postcard with a reminder to check your email and instructions.
* Disclosure of your social security number is not required at the time of application to the college, but it is highly recommended. Disclosure ultimately will be required for most students at the time of enrollment, per § 6050S of the Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998, or at the time of disbursement of federal financial aid, per 34 Code of Federal Regulations Part 668.36. Section 23-2.2:1 of the Code of Virginia also authorizes the Virginia Community College System to collect student social security numbers and other personally identifiable information prior to a student's enrollment, and requires it to electronically transmit enrollment data to the State Police. However, the VCCS will only use your social security number in accordance with federal and state reporting requirements, and for identification purposes within the VCCS. It shall not permit further disclosure unless required or authorized by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, 20 U.S.C. § 1232g, or pursuant to your obtained consent.
