The program is designed to prepare students as veterinary technicians. In Virginia, licensed veterinary technicians working under the direct supervision of a licensed veterinarian may perform those tasks related to animal health except the diagnosis of disease, prescribing drugs, or performing surgery. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the Virginia Veterinary Technician Licensing exam which is offered in January and June.
This program is designed for those students who for personal or financial reasons cannot travel to Weyers Cave for the on-campus program. Students may complete general education requirements at Virginia Western. Veterinary technology courses are interactive, two-way audio and video, and are transmitted from Blue Ridge Community College to Virginia Western via compressed video technology three hours a day, two days a week.
Complete training necessary to meet eligibility requirements for certification as a veterinary technicians.
