Virginia Western has launched a campus wide retention initiative called "One Great Hour" Continuous Alert Plan for Enrollment Management and Student Success. Retention activities designed to increase student satisfaction and success are coordinated through the Alliance for Excellence/Retention Services Office which is located in the Chapman Hall, Room 105.
Phase I of the program includes the following:
- Faculty referral: through contacts that reflect genuine concern, faculty identify concerns and use campus resources to refer students to receive assistance in accomplishing their educational goals; and
- One-on-one tutoring in all subject areas.
Phase II of the program includes a series of "Hot Topic" Workshops. The workshops are designed to provide suggestions/tips on how students can develop the skills needed to perform well in classes and build confidence in their ability to learn.
