The Virginia Western Community College developmental education program serves the needs of students at all academic levels. By offering a variety of developmental English, mathematics, and chemistry courses as well as non-credit English and mathematics classes, Virginia Western provides students with the preparation necessary to achieve their long-term academic goals.
Students are recommended for these courses based on the results of placement testing completed at the time of admission. Due to the academic implications of placement testing results, it is strongly advised that students engage in preparation activities prior to completing these entrance assessments.
In addition to the instruction provided in the classroom environment, developmental education faculty collaborate with staff in Advising, TRiO Pathways, and the Testing Center to provide a comprehensive academic experience focused on success and achievement.
