Career Pathways are educational programs designed to prepare students for skilled employment in targeted industry sectors. The term "career pathway" may be used for programs that prepare the emerging workforce, such as high school students, or adults returning to work, transitioning to a new career field, or seeking to progress in their current field.
Career Pathways must be comprised of sequences of core academic and CTE courses at both the secondary and postsecondary level and must offer students the opportunity to gain early college credits through high school coursework, i.e. dual enrollment. Additionally, the program has to be targeted to career preparation in a high skills, high wage, and/or high demand occupational area.
